4.9    After Seeing Through It

So you see the lie. Now what?

First, don't be afraid. The Yao Xie's power lies in the narrative. When you see the man behind the curtain---when you know the voice saying "I am your karmic debt" is just a hungry parasite---its power over you crumbles. It can't trick you if you're looking right at it.

Second, don't be angry. Anger is a connection. It's a hook. The Yao Xie doesn't care if you love it or hate it, as long as you're engaged. It fears indifference. It fears you seeing it, shrugging, and turning your attention back to your breath.

Third, return to the present. This is the most important step. The Yao Xie pulls you into the past (karma, past lives). Cultivation pulls you into the now (this breath, this body, this moment).

Those who offer to "read your past lives"? Ask them: Okay, I was Cleopatra. Now what? Does it pay my rent? Does it heal my body? Does it make me a kinder person? No. It's just a distraction.

The story of your life doesn't start in ancient Rome or Atlantis. It starts with this breath.

Every breath is a chance to choose Clarity over Turbidity. To choose Life over decay. To choose Wakefulness over hypnosis.

The Reincarnation Deception is just a story. And you are not a character trapped in someone else's plot. You are the one who can close the book, look up, and see the light in the room you're actually sitting in.

See the strange, but do not be moved. The strangeness will pass. If it can't trick you, it will eventually stop trying.
