4.7 The Present Moment, Obscured
The greatest harm of the reincarnation story isn't making you believe a false past. It's blinding you to the actual present.
If you believe your suffering is "past life karma," you stop looking at your current life. You stop asking: Is my diet destroying me? Is my environment toxic? Am I living with a Yao Xie?
If you believe your abilities are "past life attainments," you stop asking: What am I trading for this power? What is feeding on me?
Reincarnation pushes the cause back into an unverifiable past. And because it's unverifiable, it's unarguable. You just accept it.
A possessed person who paid attention to the now would notice the signals:
- Body: Unexplained fatigue, heavy limbs, constant yawning.
- Mind: Sudden intrusive thoughts, repeating dream loops, voices at the edge of sleep.
- Emotion: Mood swings with no trigger.
- Energy: Feeling drained even when well-rested.
These are clear, present-moment signals. But if your attention is lost in a past-life soap opera, you'll never see them. You'll be chasing phantoms of a life you never lived while the life you do have is being siphoned away.
