Yao Xie aren't the only thing that can mess with you. Here are a few others that get lumped in with "hauntings."

Deity Offenses. Not possession, but a violation of cosmic protocol.

  • Household Gods: Offending the Stove God or local guardians through disrespectful renovations. Causes chronic, hard-to-diagnose illness.
  • Earth Gods: Tai Sui, San Sha, Wu Gui. Offended by digging or building in the wrong place at the wrong time. Can cause accidents, severe illness, mental breaks.
  • Boundary Gods: Offending local city gods or road gods.

These are diagnosed by cross-referencing symptoms with specific dates and actions. If identified correctly, a specific remediation ritual fixes it quickly.

Geopathic Stress / Sha Qi.

  • Feng Shui: A bad house location or burial site causes a slow drain on health and luck. Fixed with adjustments or specific talismanic "suppression" objects.
  • Sha Qi (Killing Energy): Exposure to funeral processions, entering a room where a miscarriage occurred, or contact with extreme filth. Requires specific cleansing.

Human Sorcery.

  • Cursed Objects: Someone buries a hexed item on your property.
  • Spellcasting: Someone uses your birth date or personal item to manipulate you.
  • Gu Poison: Ingesting or touching a magically prepared toxin.

These require complex, often on-site, interventions.
