2.4 We've Been Asking the Wrong Question About "Powers"
Let's address the most seductive and dangerous topic: Supernatural abilities.
If you cultivate, will you gain powers? Will you see things others can't? Predict the future? Move objects with your mind? Open your third eye?
This question is fundamentally wrong.
Let's observe something. Birds fly. For a bird, flight isn't a supernatural power. It doesn't wake up amazed, thinking, "Holy crap, I can fly!" It's just its normal capacity, like having a heartbeat. Humans can't fly. But we invented airplanes. If a bird could grasp that, it would think our "superpower" is flying without wings or talking to someone a thousand miles away.
Now apply this logic to the paranormal.
Spirits---whether Yao Xie, Residuals, or whatever---have no physical body.
We have a body, so we have five senses based on biochemical reactions. Light hits retina -> chemical reaction -> electric signal. Sound hits eardrum -> mechanical energy -> electric signal. Perception is hardware-dependent.
Spirits have no hardware. No retina. No eardrums. How do they "see"? How do they "hear"?
Answer: They don't. They've evolved a completely different system of perception and communication that doesn't rely on physical chemistry. We don't know exactly how it works. But it does.
According to Qi Cultivation theory, when a spirit attaches to a person, it can piggyback its own perceptual system onto the human's nervous system. Suddenly, the person can "see" things invisible to the eye, "hear" sounds inaudible to the ear, "know" things they couldn't possibly know.
People, not understanding this, are amazed. They call it "Divine Sight" or "Clairaudience." It sounds impressive. It sounds like you developed a high-level ability.
But think carefully: Is this your ability?
Did you learn to fly? Or did something just pick you up and carry you?
In the Qi Cultivator's observation, there's a pattern worth noting: Sudden, extraordinary sensory abilities are almost never "internally generated" through practice. They are almost always an external "interface" connection. If you remove the attached spirit through specific methods, the "powers" vanish along with it.
As a flesh-and-blood being, your normal mode of perception is those five senses. They work fine. If you suddenly gain access to channels beyond those five senses, your physical body didn't suddenly evolve a new organ. A non-physical entity loaned you its bandwidth.
It's a loan, not a gift. And loans come with interest. Usually, steep interest.
This is why genuine cultivation traditions are fiercely wary of chasing powers. Not because they aren't real. But because you don't know who's on the other end of the line.
The Yao Xie can grant you these experiences---it's actually easy for them. They plug their perception into your neurology, and voila, you "see." You're amazed. You think this teacher or this practice is the real deal. And then? You willingly become a food source, accepting the gradual erosion of your own being.
Those courses that promise to "unlock your third eye" or "connect you to your higher self"? I'm not saying they're all fake. I'm saying: You better figure out exactly what is opening that door.
